In this episode we talk about what WE SEE when we look at others and what GOD SEES. We talk a little bit about the superficial stuff, some of our insecurities, and how we sometimes make decisions about who we want to know and be friends with based on how the package looks, not the contents. We simplify things and try to get to the heart of the matter. We talk about being image bearers, coveting, and talk a little bit about King Saul in 1 Samuel. This is the first episode in a little series we’re doing on 1 Samuel, so be sure to follow along 😉
We also talk about the exhausting, necessary, ever-changing routine of keeping your kids in bed at night. We share a few stories and try to encourage you mommas out there to stay the course — because SLEEP is worth it, and so is your marriage. 😉
We have a little design in this one too. Dannette shares about the shiplap wall that’s underway in her living room.
Thanks so much for listening!

DANNETTE’S HOUSE: Shiplap Wall (in progress pics)
- This is wall in my living room that I painted black prior to planking. Painting the wall underneath your planking black will help the reveals between each plank shadow correctly.
- We bought a 4×8 sheet of plywood and cut it into 5″ high pieces. We chose 5″ height because it worked best when the wall was divided up height wise. I also did not want them to be too wide or too narrow (because I’m cra-cra). So 5″ is what worked for us.
- We started at the ceiling and leveled the top board and are working our way down. We placed pennies between each board as we hung them to maintain the correct spacing between boards.
- This wall in our living room actually is serving as our make-shift homework bench for the kids. We don’t have a foyer or large area for backpacks and homework, so the kids are placing their stuff here at the moment. Things change at our house weekly (no joke) but this is our set-up at the moment.
- This is the view we discussed in the podcast that looks thru the living room into the 3 seasons room with the white brick.
- We will eventually be painting the door trim between these two spaces the dark charcoal black! I can barely wait 😉
- Here are some detail shots of the wood. We still have to fill the nail holes, caulk around the trim, and paint everything.
